Are you confused about which Teach Abroad program in Vietnam to choose?
There is so much conflicting information. Do you feel completely bewildered at which organisations you can trust, which TEFL/ TESOL course you should take, and who has your best interests at heart? If so, I totally know how you feel!
If you read my other blog, you’ll know how useful I found my Teach Abroad Program and how it helped me feel a lot more secure with taking the plunge to move to Vietnam to teach English! So, the question today is, would I do it again if I was in the same position?
What did I like about my Teach Abroad in Vietnam program?
So, definitely yes, in terms of the pre-departure information. I would 100% do it again. Having that person to talk to, to bounce ideas off, to answer all of my questions, who could answer anything that I wanted to know, was invaluable. It was not just teaching but also about life in Vietnam and the culture. I would suggest that anyone who’s a little bit nervous about moving to Vietnam or a little bit worried about teaching English overseas that a Teach Abroad program is definitely the way to go!
Was my Teach Abroad Program worth it?
Yes. Just for the peace of mind of I think doing a Teach Abroad Program is super helpful for nervous travellers who like to have a plan- like me! However, there are a lot of different programs out there, so make sure you get your money’s worth. I think that a lot of companies are gaining basic knowledge of the country through Google and then overcharging teachers for that knowledge. They build their own programs to make more and more money. It becomes not so much about the teacher as an individual but more about how many programs they can run. Again, be sure to get what you are promised and make sure it is clear from the start. Are you receiving the going rate? Are they taking a cut from your wage or salary? Will you be working legally?
I have often asked myself, would I do it again? Yeah, I think I would. It was the best experience ever, and I’m still really glad that I had that help and support. What Teacher’s Friend Vietnam aims to do now is give people the opportunity to make a difference. So, I want to keep the vital parts of a Teach Abroad Program that made my program so good and also bring back choice.
What would I like to improve about Teach Abroad programs in general?
Make sure you choose a Teach Abroad program that offers you the freedom to make your own choices, such as where you teach, what age, the students, which school, etc. Make sure you get to choose where you live or who with or even what you eat- if the food is provided. It’s your experience. Don’t compromise! Don’t exchange freedom for security- you can have both if you choose a great program! At Teacher’s Friend Vietnam, I don’t think you should have to make that compromise. That’s what Teacher’s Friend Vietnam is all about.
Why is the Teacher’s Friend Vietnam program different?
