Teacher's Friend

Abandoned at the side of the street, easy teacher’s life and a friend from home

teacher's life

I was late today because my xe om driver ran out of petrol on the main road, so abandoned me on the side of the street, pushed his bike across the highway into the oncoming traffic, filled up is tank and rode back to collect me!

I started teaching at 8.40am but there was a special celebration happening for the end of the school year so and so at 9.15am the kids had their snack time, then at 9.30 they had break time until 9.45, then at 9.45 they all got changed until 10.00pm, then at 10.20 I was told I could finish… and that earnt me $60…. This is the teacher’s life.

I caught up on sleep at lunch time, then returned and taught from 2.30pm (2.45 by the time they were ready) until 3.15, then they coloured in a worksheet and I tested them on what they knew individually, then they had a break at 3.40pm until 4pm and then I finished…

I decided that after such an easy day, and with my timetable being the same for the next two weeks, I needed to focus on learning Spanish, Vietnamese, writing my blogs and reading my books! Busy, busy.

Connor (a friend who I made on a night out) and I have also made a deal that after 5 weeks of partying it’s time to focus on some more trips around Hanoi, so I’ve been researching more places to visit.

Life here is so good that I’ve been trying to convince my friend Harry to come over here and teach for a while now. He told me I should be a sales rep?! (It’s easy to sell living in Vietnam when the lifestyle is so awesome!).

Well, he was offered a job interview on Wednesday with my school but unfortunately isn’t in Hanoi yet. They also want him to have TEFL certificate and to stay for a year…

So I’ve convinced him to come for the year and told them that he will send his CV and do an online course while he is here… they are interested, he is interested, he just needs to get his ass on a plane! It also means that I will have someone to share my apartment with for the next year and an extra friend in Hanoi!

I have moved from the house which I was living in as they have finished their Teach Abroad program now and wish to focus on their volunteer program. Luckily, I was offered a renewed contract with the school I am working at, that includes accommodation in the school building! Free rent on top of awesome ages!
